RHIAN WHITTY / ARTIST STATEMENT / C.V
Throughout my practice I have investigated balance, disharmony and the relationship of the moods and materials I use in my work. My influences are first and foremost everything I experience and feel yet am strongly inspired by films, television, and advertisements. My work centres around metamorphosis; I use found objects and my own imagery which I then alter through my use of colour and form, transforming their natural/found state by means of process driven experimentation. I want to see how this affects the aesthetics of the piece and what new layers of conversation can be created. I work largely but not exclusively through the medium of film, while I use a variety of materials each project is linked by recurring concerns and subject matter. Throughout my films sound takes principal, to induce a deeper level of atmosphere to my images. I am interested in the transformation of everyday objects into art works. As well as this, I also use popular culture references in my work and enjoy to blur the lines between traditional and modern aesthetics.
